Okay, totally rehauling this morning's post now that I am no longer hyped up / anxious / rushed. In fact I'm pretty worn out and resisting sleep because I have to go pick up the mewbaby soon, it is currently at the vet getting tested for feline leukemia and the like, as well as getting dewormed and getting her first set of vaccinations.
Speaking of, let me just say something. I'm blessed that such a chain of coincidences enabled me to save a kitten today; if you gave me a chance to do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate to run right into traffic a second time. It's amazing to think about it. It's amazing that I didn't get to deposit my first paycheck when I received it, because the ATM machine was down, and I was too lazy to go across town to another one. Amazing that I waited until today, which is supposed to be my next payday, to deposit it, because that meant I had a measly $100 to take the kitten to the vet with. The only money on me, but it worked.
Speaking of said veterinarian, I owe a very big thank you to Briarcliff Animal Hospital for taking the baby in and deciding to give her the full treatment, something that cost more than $150, for my measly $100. I'll make sure to fully support that vet in the future, should they need to be sponsored or are raising funds sponsoring animal adoption.
I'm just.. amazed. I can't really say what possessed me to go to Cash's last night after work, instead of just going home to sleep. I don't know why we stayed up, or why we couldn't get to sleep, or why I decided to drive home at 6 in the morning just to find a small black kitten scared and bewildered in the middle of the highway. .. there has to be a reason why I made those choices, why I suddenly just felt like going over there for the night after work when I could have just as easily went home and gotten on the computer like I normally do.
The baby weighs 1 lb, 4 ounces. He/she is very tiny. I do not know what gender it is yet. I will find out in a little while after I pick it up from the vet, and if the tests for diseases come back negative -- cross your fingers -- I will be adopting the baby out. I can't keep it myself, unfortunately, although most of you know if I were able I'd have a whole PACK of cats by now. She seems to be in good shape, although her tongue and lips are cut up, and her face is somewhat swollen around the eyes -- the vet and I reached the conclusion that she must have been hit in the face, if not by a car, then maybe like Oliver's case, where she was dropped off and hit the curb the wrong way. If all goes well and her bill of health is positive, she'll make an excellent recovery and be a wonderful addition to any home that welcomes cats.
I'll get some pictures up later tonight. I haven't slept yet, so when I get home from the vet the baby will probably go to bed with me. Please, if any of you know someone in the Jacksonville / Florida / Georgia area who would be willing to adopt and that you know will be good to the baby, let me know. Spread the word. I honestly would prefer she go out to a friend, or a friend of a friend, instead of going to the Humane Society, even if they are no-kill now. I want to guarantee she has a home.
I really only have a few prerequisites: I'd prefer the kitten to be an indoor cat, it will need to be spayed or neutered, I would prefer that it NOT be declawed, because keeping the toenails clipped and blunt is very easy and I can instruct you on how it works, and I do not want somebody adopting it only to give it away later.
EDIT: Vet report -- the vet just called. All of her tests were negative. It's a tiny six week old baby girl. Man she's so tiny wait until I get pictures and you can see. :(
She needs a name. And a home. Anyone?
