Soccer Rankings 11/9/09

Manchester United lost to Chelsea yesterday. There are a lot of complaints about the free kick that led to the one goal they scored, but honestly I think it was a make-up call after Jonny Evans accidentally kicked Didier Drogba in the chest in an air challenge and then Drogba got a yellow for diving or dissent, I couldn't tell which. (Dad: "They have make-up calls in soccer, too?") I don't like being this far behind Chelsea this close to Christmas, but there's nothing to be done about it. At least some of the pressure is off in Champions League because we've already qualified. I still want to win the group, though.

I also watched Barcelona vs. Mallorca on Saturday. It was pretty exciting - I haven't watched any Spanish football in a while. I miss the old days of undergrad, going home every other weekend and watching Sky Sports News and Fox Soccer Report all Friday night and then getting up early on Saturday morning for the 10 a.m. game. And then watching the Spanish match on Gol TV later that afternoon. School's cable package is so.... basic.

I took a break from art yesterday as chores were piling up and family was missing me. Indulged myself in MUX through the afternoon. Man, I needed the mental break! Finished this one today:

The men at dinner react to Jesus' story about the debt collector.

Jesus: Who do you think he loved more?

Simon: The one most indebted to him, I suppose.

Jesus: You assume correctly...

The Postmature Burial

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 11:56 AM
I'm starting to be concerned that I may have died over the weekend. I admit that this seems somewhat unlikely, given my current state of activity and general refusal to lie still and quit breathing, but there are certain indicators which are beginning to worry me.

Years ago, I learned that bodies sometimes -- or maybe always, I don't recall -- bruise after death, due to the blood pooling in the lower parts. It's called lividity, I think, and I appear to have something very much like it going on in my leg right now. In a clever demonstration of levers, fulcrums and the redirection of force, I managed with the help of a half-sawn branch to essentially kick myself in the side of the knee as hard as I could on Halloween. It raised a huge purple knot, with the surrounding area fading through some lovely shades of yellowish-green.

This bruising was perfectly reasonable. Yesterday, though, I began to notice new mystery bruises spawning on my knee and lower on my calf, at the far end of the discoloration from the primary bruise. All three are a faded purplish-red; none of them hurt, but they do seem to have grown larger over the course of the last couple of days.

Also, my pulse is a bit slower than normal, and my lower back sort of hurts; I'd been ignoring that, but it could be rigor mortis. If so, I hope it doesn't spread. It's annoying enough as it is. If this started happening over my entire body, I'd probably just give up moving around, too. Maybe I'm just more obstinate than other dead people, or more clueless. I never have been good at taking subtle hints, like in that whole appendicitis debacle. If you're not familiar with the story, the short version is that I failed to notice I was sick until several days after my appendix ruptured, and then didn't make it to the hospital for another couple of days after I finally noticed something was wrong. In my defense, my body was well aware of the Rule of Obtuseness, and should have known better than to try subtly suggesting things to me.

I'm also considering the possibility that I'm undead -- heartbeat notwithstanding -- and have been crossing off the types I could be. My vocabulary seems intact and I've got no craving for brains or flesh, so that rules out a zombie or a ghoul. I'm too corporeal to be a ghast or a poltergeist. I was out in the sun today, and neither died nor sparkled, so vampires are out. I'm not a Nazgul, or a barrow wight of any sort, since I don't have an object I feel a compulsion to guard. It's possible that I accidentally made myself a lich; I have been falling asleep reading and watching horror movies lately, so who knows what I might have invoked in my subconscious. I think you generally have to say those incantations aloud, however, so I doubt that's it. Still, it's leading the pack so far.

I need to find a copy of my life insurance terms and conditions. If I'm undead, can I collect on it? If so, even if I'm not undead right now, I need to change it so that I'm my own beneficiary, just in case things work out for me later. At the very least, I might be able to make them add a ridiculous new clause to the agreement, which would be a success all by itself.

The Game

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 1:32 AM
This is just a plea for more people to come and join us, we miss every single one of you who doesn't log in as often as the rest of us. I really want to see this game get back to the way it was, desperately. I've been trying to track down who added the BMU listing to Mudconnect.com so we can actually try and get the address changed there, I've tried contacting their administration and have yet to hear back, unfortunately.

If you know who or were the one who added us there we could use the help having it modified to reflect the server change.

"www.bleachmu.net Port 3600"

We actually lucked out on one guest finding us through here: http://mudstats.com/Game/BleachedMux.aspx

But we need staff to be active (perhaps they're just always dark) to accept applications and to get applications we need players, to get players we need a combined effort to visit our game again and help pull it from the grave. I have shown a (probably over-strong) a lot of interest in reviving what we had and I am asking you all, staff or player, to come visit us and help flesh the game out again. The cycle has to start somewhere and I can't do it on my own, nor with just the help of Byakuya and Aizen and Grimmjow and Kuukaku. We miss all of you and I've sent a couple of you emails asking this much. Come see us, come pop in, I have no idea if we have appstaff or not but we really need to get this train moving before it's dead on the tracks.

Please.

Father's day, no less! Here's a sneaky-looking legendary devil dad. Pencil sketch + CG greys/whites and textures. I need to practice practice practice faces a lot more than I do.

To warm the lonely nights

It's November and it is dark. It's the month where self-preservation might actually make you remember to wear reflectors when going out after 5pm. It's been one hell of a week better left forgotten and unspoken of but but it ended on a good note. A family anniversary and a reason to dress up, and father's day today. Instead of babbling about it I'll just photo-spam.

The fact that mom bought me those tights-jeans with rivets up the side makes me laugh.

In addition and unrelated, Muse's cover of Can't take my eyes off of you makes me ridiculously happy. And, roughly ten years of English studies and I still can't spell "chocolate" without (and against better knowledge) trying to add an extra h. This perplexes and amuses me to no end.

FFMUX -- Gilgamesh and Butz

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 11:37 PM
A scene of Gilgamesh and Butz re-uniting for the first time in the Converged world. Both are characters from Final Fantasy V (though Gilgamesh spans several games). This is non-edited, taken directly from MUX rp. Happy reading.

Gilgamesh... you've shrunk! )

...poor Junon will never be the same.

This illustrates the other side of the debt collector with the two indentured men. For narrative purposes, I wanted to show his face. I was going to have him tearing up their records of debt, but I thought that might seem too hokey and literal. I was going to have the men celebrating, but thought that was better suited to children's books. In the end, it might be a little too subtle and static, but that may be helped with the voice over narration.

spam, and some awesome.

Mom and I went on a walk to the library/community center, where we discovered a small but well-equipped and cheap gym. Its hours are pretty terrible for her, but they're great for me. Plus, half a mile away, therefore, easy walking distance! Hopefully I will get signed up soon.

Then, as we were walking back, I spied a sign for an estate sale. We eventually found it. Antique dealers had picked most of it over the day before, but there was a lot of stuff left for fans.

Show of hands, who appreciates how awesome it is that I got a twenty-five-year-old Bruce Springsteen 45" single with "Jersey Girl" on the back for seven bucks.

More (and bigger) under the cut. )

I am going to have a new userinfo header shortly.
